Song lyrics to ‘Abide with me; fast falls the eventide’ by Henry F. Lyte, 1847. Henry Lyte wrote this hymn only three weeks before he died from tuberculosis. He wrote it to accompany his farewell sermon to his congregation, as he left to travel to Italy for his health. Sadly, he never made it there, dying in France.
